Meet Dr. Heather Snyder

Dr. Heather Snyder is a board-certified podiatric physician with more than two decades of experience providing comprehensive foot and ankle care in Charlottesville, Virginia. As the co-owner and physician at Albemarle Family Foot & Ankle, she has built a practice centered on thoughtful, patient-focused care that blends clinical expertise with a deep understanding of biomechanics, sports medicine, and long-term wellness.

Dr. Heather was born and raised on the southeastern shore of Massachusetts. She began her academic journey at Stonehill College, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, where she graduated with numerous academic honors, including the prestigious Dr. Marjorie C. Sitkoff Memorial Award. She completed her residency training at the University of Pennsylvania Health System’s Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, where she developed a strong foundation in both primary podiatric medicine and complex foot and ankle pathology.

Board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Heather is recognized for her expertise in conservative and preventative care as well as her commitment to advancing patient education.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Heather has also played a significant role in the local arts community as former Board Chair and Medical Director for the Charlottesville Ballet, where she works closely with dancers to prevent and treat performance-related injuries.

A passionate educator, Dr. Heather has delivered numerous lectures and presentations to both medical audiences and the community. Her topics range from diabetic foot care and geriatric podiatry to sports-related injuries and foot health for active individuals. She is particularly known for her work with dancers and athletes, emphasizing the importance of foot health as a foundation for overall performance.

Through her years of experience, leadership, and dedication to patient care, Dr. Heather has established herself as a trusted and respected provider in the Charlottesville community. Her approach combines clinical excellence with a genuine commitment to helping patients stay active, healthy, and pain-free.

When not in the clinic or attending a ballet performance, Dr. Heather can often be found working in her garden or curled up on a mountain cabin deck reading a good book.

"I believe in educating patients to empower them to take control of their health care decisions and improve their overall quality of life."

Meet Dr. Bryan Snyder

Dr. Bryan R Snyder is a licensed and board-certified podiatrist with over 25 years of experience helping patients achieve optimal foot and ankle health through comprehensive, patient-centered care.

After earning his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, he completed a 2 year residency in primary podiatric medicine and orthopedics at the University of Pennsylvania Health Systems. Since moving from Philadelphia to Charlottesville in 1999, he helped form Albemarle Family Foot & Ankle to conservatively address health issues of the foot and ankle. Dr. Bryan concurrently spent 16 years as head of the podiatry clinic at UVA's University Medical Associates but recently returned back to AFFA to concentrate on his private practice (i.e. to give his overworked wife a hand).

His approach to podiatry is one where he creates a personalized treatment plan for you that delivers lasting results.

Dr. Snyder specializes in geriatric foot care, sports injuries and the design and modification of orthotic insoles.

He is so "old school" that he still does house calls. Seriously. He's got the little black bag and everything.

When not in the office, Dr. Bryan prefers to have a guitar in his hand and his toes in the sand.

"The human body has an incredible capacity to heal, if you just give it a chance. Fuel it up properly and use it (or lose it) ! "

— Dr. Bryan R Snyder

OUR APPROACH

Core Values & Frequently Asked Questions

Our practice is built on a foundation of compassionate care, clinical excellence, and long-term wellness.

Compassionate Care

We treat every patient with respect, empathy, and individualized attention to their unique needs.

Evidence-Based Practice

Our treatments are grounded in the latest research and proven clinical methodologies.

Personalized Treatment

No two patients are alike. We create custom care plans tailored to your specific condition and lifestyle.

No Insurance Billing

We focus on YOUR healthcare - not asking big corporations for treatment plans.

Do you accept my insurance?

No.

Why don't you accept my insurance?

After 25+ years of playing the insurance games of "covered vs non-covered" plus "in network deductibles" and "global period" denials, we had enough fighting red tape and endless phone trees. We'd much rather spend our valuable time (and yours) actually helping you.

As an added benefit, we don't need to hire additional staff just to chase down insurance payments and prior authorizations. Therefore, we can keep our fees reasonable rather than padding or inflating our bills. Most patients find that a visit to our office costs LESS out of pocket than using their insurance benefits.

You really don't accept my insurance?

Correct. At Albemarle Family Foot & Ankle, we do things a little bit different than what you may find in a traditional medical practice. We firmly believe that your health care options should be YOUR choice - NOT your insurance company's. Our prices are transparent and upfront - with no surprise or confusing bills afterwards!

Can I at least try and submit a claim myself?

After your visit, we can provide an itemized receipt for all medically necessary office visits and procedures. We have found along our journey that the big commercial insurance companies may actually respond to you, their beneficiaries, more readily than do with doctors. So it's worth a shot.

What about Medicare and Medicaid?

Our providers do not accept or participate with either of these programs.

My parent doesn't get out and about like he used to. Do you make house calls?

Yes! Dr. Bryan reserves several days a month dedicated to house calls and multiple local nursing home/ assisted living facility visits.

My child loves dance but is having and issue. Who can I turn to for help?

Dr. Heather Snyder acts as Medical Director for the Charlottesville Ballet and is a current member of the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science. She has special training and expertise in dance medicine.

I've had this foot problem for years and everyone tells me that surgery is the only answer. It that right?

Not necessarily. We love evaluating patients for "second opinions." While it's true that some foot & ankle conditions are better handled surgically, our doctors specialize in finding options that just may keep you out from "under the knife."

Where is your office located?

Albemarle Family Foot & Ankle is located at 1410 Incarnation Drive in the Branchlands Professional Center. We are just off Route 29 behind the Wood Grill Buffet and the old Big Lots building.
